Beyoncé to Remove Offensive “Ableist” Lyric from ‘Renaissance’ Song ‘Heated’

With an impressive commercial and critical response attached to its first week, Beyoncé‘s new album, ‘Renaissance,’ appears to be a shoo-in for the top spot on next week’s Billboard 200.

Yet, much like Lizzo before her (as we reported here), Bey’s July 29-released project is also finding her in the top spot of another list: the sh*tlist of advocates for people with disabilities.

See how inside.

As heard above, one lyric in the LP’s song ‘Heated’ left some listeners just that after they got a whiff of the line that mentions ‘spazzin.’

“Spazzin’ on that ass, spazz on that ass,” she sings on the Boi-1da-produced cut.

“Spazzing,” a negative play on the term “spastic,” refers to disabilities that make it difficult for people to control their muscles – especially in their legs and arms.

As accusations of ableism against Bey began to swirl on social media, the diva’s team released an official statement to deny the assertion and offer a swift remedy.

“The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced,” a statement from Beyoncé’s team reads.

Outrage over the lyric is one of many controversies Queen Bey’s braced over the ‘Renaissance’ era.

In addition to a leak that preceded the project’s release by a few days, she was also slammed by Kelis for allegedly sampling the ‘Get Along With You’ singer’s music without permission.

Never knew the term was offensive or evolved from ‘Spastic’.

It’s been used for decades tho. Basically it’s another way of saying “lose your cool”.

So, this is going to make the vinyl copies that we have even more rare and valuable as they will now have to remove the word from future pressings, including the Collector’s Edition which is on pre-order for release in October, which they’ll now have to retract, destroy all copies of and push back the release date for while they press brand new copies of with the removed word.
